Dr Gayle Newcombe   M.App.Sci PhD

Gayle Newcombe is the Manager Customer Value & Water Quality Research in the Research unit of the South Australian Water Corporation (SA Water). SA Water is a government owned corporation responsible for the provision of water and wastewater services to over 1.7 million people in South Australia.  Dr Newcombe has completed two research degrees (M. App. Sci., PhD) in the area of surface chemistry; her PhD thesis described the fundamental surface chemistry involved in the adsorption of natural organic material (NOM) onto activated carbon. She also holds an Adjunct Associate Professor position at the University of South Australia. Dr. Newcombe has worked in the drinking water industry for 28 years, participating in, and leading interdisciplinary, collaborative research projects investigating activated carbon treatment (adsorption and biofiltration) and oxidation of taste and odour compounds, NOM and algal toxins. She is the author or co-author of over one hundred and fifty publications - research reports, book chapters, conference papers, and peer-reviewed journal papers - on different aspects of drinking water treatment. More recently Dr. Newcombe’s focus has been on the objective of assessing and influencing customers’ perception of drinking water quality by the analysis and interpretation of customer perception and satisfaction data and by developing and implementing a range of community engagement activities.
