Groundwater R&D

Michael Blackam is a Senior Principal Hydrogeologist with Coffey. His areas of experience include groundwater resource assessment and investigation, numerical groundwater modelling, mining hydrogeology, contaminated land, environmental impact assessment, and salinity.

He has extensive experience in groundwater and contaminant transport modelling. This includes predictive regional-scale groundwater modelling for water resource management and supply, modelling and conceptualisation for unconventional gas developments, contaminant transport modelling of organic pollutants, and particle transport modelling for remediation system design.

His areas of hydrology experience include water balance modelling for mine water process circuits, including water supply reliability assessment and the effects of climate change. He is also experienced in modelling of surface water systems and runoff generation, at scales ranging from local sites through to stream catchment and river basins.

He provides specialist support to environmental auditors in Victoria, NSW, SA and WA. He has been called to provide advice as an expert witness for matters before court, and at a Parliamentary Inquiry.
